For those that cant be arsed to read - check the photos, they speak for themselves!:
click here It's customary for the first DJ up on the night to write the review for the evening - cos I was in the best position to enjoy the rest of the night as a clubber. ain’t that an understatement.....
Every spare penny went into the Squelch launch night, and we splashed out on the full monty to make it a night to remember... and it most definitely was... Awesome setup and display by Mirror Images for the laser show (thanks Ricky), Wicked Visuals from the VJ's Inside Us All (Cheers Calve and Crew) Very Cool UV Backdrops from Karma Productions (cheers Steve, sorry about the Parking Ticket!) and last but by no means least, a big thank you to the LAK:UK Dancers, you got the Crowd moving and kept them on their toes through till 6am!
So, in all, the Night was a roaring success , so another big thank you to everyone that came down and showed their support. We've shown what we're capable of and what the Squelch Parties are all about, so fingers crossed, more people will come back next time and I’m sure they'll be bringing all their mates!
We also had a few promoters and party people down there as well... Cheers to Gavin and all the staff at SEOne - so friendly, dead impressed with you lot...
Lasers? wot Lasers....
one guy stopped on his way out to give us his critical feedback which I was well pleased with -
"Brilliant night, full of atmosphere, a real nice crowd and the music was fantastic - nice and varied, I paid a tenner for a night which kept my interest all the way through to the end... Normally I’ll pay £15 for a night where I'll stay a couple of hours and then head off... so well done ... the only criticism I would say is that it was a bit bright in the main room - you need to turn the lights down a bit"
if your reading this send us your name i was tanked on leaflet fumes at the time - or something like that...
so point noted we'll be turning the lights down a bit for the next one.... and I’m so chuffed you lot enjoyed it so much.
When Amos the NOS (Laughing Gas) Salesmen appeared out of nowhere and started setting up I had a quick look around for Mr Benn, cos we'd never seen this guy before, but apparently he comes with the furniture... Fair play - his wares had me giggling my ass off and collapsed by the wall on a few occasions later on in the night. Thanks has to go to the the UV stall which added that club atmosphere feel to the night walking round selling ice pops and handing out lollies hope it was worthwhile for ya and hope to see you at the next one...
Would ya......? I would....
When i arrived most of the back drops had been set up and the VJ's started setting up their gear, I jumped in and started hanging the inflatables - (what a nightmare)
Then I'd just finished hanging the last inflatable and i realised it was 9.45pm - 15 minutes until i was due to start playing, got up on the decks and started figuring out the sound system then chucked on the first Tune (You don’t know what you do to me baby)
The beginning of my set was fine, the first tracks mixed in perfectly then when the Fourth track kicked in the sound on the headphones disappeared.....completely... I had Tony De Vit - I don’t care (bullet-proof remix) playing and thank GOD that it was the longest record in my set.... eventually figured out that the needle wasn't dropping down onto the record properly, the lifting mechanism was sticky.... anyway - fixed it with a well placed poke and we were game on again.... unfortunately had to flip from Tony de Vit straight into the next track "Derb Attack".... was ugly.... but that was the only (bad ) cock up of the night...
Me (Loki) bricking it.....
There was a (cute) girl hanging on my leg telling me to put more Tidy boys stuff on all the way through the set - which was a little distracting especially when i thought the world was gonna end cos i couldn't figure out what had happened to the sound but fair play to ya - she was 'avin it on the dance floor during the first set - you've gotta admire that kind of dedication! a girl after my own heart!
then we had DJ N-Slay (Stu) and he was absolutely brilliant despite having just got off of the plane from Ibiza - no sleep - partied out like you wouldn't believe... and he still jumped on those decks and took the crowd up to the dancing level.... well done mate - was a brilliant set....
Then DJ D4RK (Adam) came on and shook the place up something Grim! The SEOne owners informed us that we had some extra power reserves on the Amps, so the Sound system was taken to the next level!! This was the endurance test, the real deal....a great set, Hard, Euphoric and Twisted all thrown into the package!!
D4rk on the decks
Next up, Jupe . Straight off a plane from South Africa, Squelch being the final gig of his 3 month mini World Tour! The many who saw it through , were amazed by his set - completely original un-released forthcoming releases... very nice work as well. he threw in Daley - "Deformed" in there as a special treat for D4rk but I just remember being incredibly impressed with it seeing as though it was mainly pre-release... and all of his own material - nice one mate was impressed cant wait for the releases... On a couple of occasions Jupe tried to bring the tempo down to a more gentle transition to the forthcoming Steve Blake’s more uplifting set, but the crowd just wanted it harder, so that's what they got!!
and then we had Steve Blake, who bought a necessary uplift to the night with some stomping trance tunes. the boy is a legend of our time.... watching him mix couldn't believe the skill ...
I'd asked him earlier in the night - "so you're a bit of an old timer in this game - do you still get nervous when you go up in front of big crowds?" he smiled and said "Nah not anymore, but it takes a long time before that fear goes away"...
Dance Floor mayhem - Awesome
Then we had DJ Rumbles in the HOUSE, now to fully appreciate Rumbles set you have to understand how nervous she was ALL night.... playing on a big sound system is a scary prospect when your not used to it and this was only her second time playing out on this kind of scale... the results surpassed hers and everyones expectation - She played a blinding set and had everyone on a high note all the way through...
Sensory Overload
Then D4RK came back on for the final set again with a slightly lighter, but still very twisted selection of Dark by Design and Passion record specials!
The final tune of the Night - DBD - "BlackOut" sent the crowd into a mental frenzy!
On that final happy note, the lights were on the guests were being kindly asked to leave..
Everyone was very pleased with it all, the bouncers even confessed to enjoying the last set by D4rk hahah....
so I’m very proud of the night, full marks to D4rk for all the effort and organisation he put in to get this dream a reality.
D4rk 'avin it - great photo cheers binbag
Thanks to all my mates that turned up and big thanks to all the new faces that decided to take a chance.... it'd be nothing without the clubbers that turn up - so big thanks to you all and I hope to see more of you at the next one so that we can continue making this a regular feature at SEOne through 2004 and beyond.....

From: kimba_leeon 25th Sep 2004 19:49.48 I have heard of this party before, I got a link off a site I'm sure, is it new or been going a while? Will check it out, its on the list. Interesting about the lights, when I was at the place for Proactive I said exactly the same thing, it was too bright for such a small room, people get a little self concious. Clubs should be dark promoters, very very dark.It unleashes our craziness!
From: DJD4RKon 25th Sep 2004 20:35.39 Hey Kimba, this was our third party, but the first of this scale at Deep Blue. Previously we've done much smaller parties at the Walrus Bar in Waterloo.
For the future we hope to continue with Bi-monthly parties, Nov 5th, January 28th and so forth.. keeping enough between each to enable maximum amount of effort into the production and promotion.
On the subject of the lights, I spoke to the club yesterday and rest assured, the main dance floor will be much darker for the next one. (Apart from possibly 3 lasers systems!!)
I'm also informed all the intelligent lighting is being replaced at the end of October, so we'll be getting first use of that too!
Hope to see you there!
From: benzon 27th Sep 2004 12:40.33 Noice! look forward to 5th november.....will have you all dancing your little cotton socks off i hope!
